Children’s Dentistry
At Piedmont Dental, we see patients of all ages! From our waiting room to our operatories, we do everything we can to make our patients feel relaxed. Children aren’t just little adults; they’re unique, and they each have their own very specific needs. Our highly skilled team does everything it can to meet those needs and to have you leave with a happy, healthy, smiling child.
One visit will convince you that there isn’t anyone else you would want to care for your children’s teeth. We’re very honored that our families entrust their precious children to us.
The All-Important First Visit
The American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend establishing a dental home for your child by one year of age. If you and your child have an established relationship with a specific dentist, you’re more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care.
Why schedule a visit so early? We can show you how to clean your child’s teeth, discuss diet and fluoride needs, and recommend oral products. We can also answer your questions about your baby’s teeth, just like a well-baby visit with your pediatrician.
First visits are very low-key. We want to gain your child’s trust at their pace, and what we do during the first visit depends on how receptive he or she is. In general, a typical first visit usually goes as follows:
- We’ll have your little one sit on your lap so they have the security of being close to you in a new environment.
- If your child is receptive, we’ll apply a fluoride varnish and take a quick look at his or her teeth to see if there are any obvious problems.
- We’ll discuss effective brushing techniques, proper diet, and the ways that bottle-feeding and thumb sucking affect your child’s teeth.
No Cavity Club
We all need a little encouragement in our lives. We feel dentistry is no different; that is why we enjoy spoiling them with gifts such as an iPad, Beats Headphones, Lego Sets, and American Girl Dolls. The only catch is they have to be cavity free during their check-up and they can enter our drawing to pick from the current prizes we have in our waiting room. We are very proud of our patients and the work it takes to keep those cavities away. Regardless of their cavity situation, all children get to pick out a small prize from our treasure chests for coming in and being a good patient.
